Charleston mouse tip of the week: Mice in cellar - Cellars can be difficult to maintain, especially if you have a root cellar. Mice in the cellar will require trapping and removal. Do not attempt to poison the rodents on the chance that they will migrate into the main areas of the home and then die. Dead animals are much more difficult to find than live ones and smell a whole lot worse. If your cellar is made of anything other than dirt, you need to keep an eye on the outside and make sure there are no holes for mice to enter through. Root cellars are a little more difficult to maintain because they are primarily made of dirt. A root cellar should have not openings in the walls that might let an animal inside. Anything that appears to be a burrow should be filled or sealed off as best as possible. Until the holes are sealed, mice will continue to enter the home and be a problem. Trapping ice in a cellar is no different than trapping mice in other areas of the home. You need some reliable snap traps and a good sense of where the rodents are travelling.
